I started working on a 2004 GTO that was dropped off for tuning and immediately found I could not proceed due to a faulty MAP sensor reading. this car is very heavily modified, featuring a 408" stroker with a F1A ProCharger. after the initial inspection, I found the problem to be a broken MAP sensor. this is actually not uncommon with GTOs that have a FAST intake manifold. if the sensor is installed in the rear of the manifold as intended from the factory, it will get mashed up against the firewall and broken. it's best to relocate the MAP to the front of the intake manifold or mount it remotely with a piece of hose and extend the wiring harness so that firewall clearance is not an issue. #bentune #hptuners #dyno #tuning #mustangdyno #dynotuning #gm #Pontiac #GTO #LSX #LS1 #LS6 #boost #supercharged #procharger #boosted #F1 #A #alltheboost #nobeltlag #racecar #e85 #ethanol #mechanic #mechanicsoftiktok #repair #work #lfg

just another crusty, rusty, junky old farm truck on the dyno today. it's been around the block a time or two and seen better days. I tuned this truck a couple years ago with a "milder" engine in it but the owner decided it was time for an upgrade because the old engine just wouldn't stop. after fixing the map sensor issue, repairing the injector wiring, and replacing the spark plugs, it was time to move on to the next problem: the flex fuel sensor. the car got tuned on 91 octane and made some decent numbers but the flex fuel sensor was not reporting ethanol content correctly. after some investigation, it was wired to the PCM correctly, but the owner had connected the 12v power wire to another sensors 5V reference somewhere. a simple cut-&-splice later, the sensor was working with the correct patch applied to the PCM. most P59 PCMs have the flex fuel switch in the tune, but it is not enabled in the background. a custom patch must be applied to get it working which was also not done to this car and I didn't cover it in the video, but it needed to be done. #bentune #hptuners #dyno #tuning #mustangdyno #dynotuning #gm #Pontiac #GTO #LSX #LS1 #LS6 #boost #supercharged #procharger #boosted #F1 #A #F1A #alltheboost #nobeltlag #racecar #e85 #ethanol #flex #fuel #flexfuel #corn #mechanic #mechanicsoftiktok #repair #work #lfg #Monday

taking a brief break from my ordinary tuning and wrenching on engines to install a fancy little gauge cluster from Dakota Digital. this is their VHX cluster and we are using the BIM module to pull data from the OBD2 port so the gauges are showing the same information the PCM has. I believe I will have to install a sensor or two on the engine, like for oil pressure, but other than that, it's a very easy install. after discovering the broken map sensor in this GTO, it wasn't quite as simple of a fix as swapping in a new sensor for the old one. I mean, it was, but I had to remove the intake manifold to do so and while it was off, I had to do a little electrical work. I was going to try to repair the injector adapter that had the loose pins, but notice that the factory wiring had some damage on nearly all of the injector wires, so that made the decision to crimp on new connectors very easy. after everything was reassembled, the car fired up after clearing out a little extra fuel that was in the cylinders from the manifold R&R. it was rough, but that was to be expected based on the tuning that had been done to the car. wiring up this Dakota Digital gauge cluster has actually been incredibly simple. there's a few issues that need to be sorted out on this OBS truck, but the most pressing issue was the factory fuel pump wiring needed to be upgraded. we have an aftermarket fuel pump, in nearly all cases you will need to upgrade the wiring to something that's a little heavier duty, and possibly upgrade the relay as well. in nearly all cases, LS swaps are going to require some kind of fuel pump larger than what the vehicle currently has in it. these larger aftermarket pumps draw a lot more amperage than the old factory pump, so the wiring must be upgraded along with the new pump so things don't get a little too spicy and melt down.. #bentune #hptuners #dyno #tuning #mustangdyno #dynotuning #gm #trucks #Chevrolet #Chevy #Silverado #rcsb #OBS #lsx #btr #BrianTooleyRacing #lsswap #hotrod #mechanic #mechanicsoftiktok #racetruck #wiring #work
