Understanding the Weight of Sin & the Gift of Eternal Life 🫶🏼 This activity is a hands-on way to help children (and adults) understand the weight of sin, the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross, and the freedom and eternal life we have because of His resurrection. Instructions: 1. Talk About Sin & Why Jesus Came • Explain that sin separates us from God, but Jesus came to take our sins upon Himself. • Discuss how sin can feel heavy, like carrying a big weight. 2. Write Down Sins on Rocks • Give each person a few rocks. • Ask them to think of sins they have struggled with—things like lying, disobedience, anger, or selfishness. • Have them write one sin per rock as a way of acknowledging it before God. 3. Place the Rocks in the Basket • Explain that just as they are placing their rocks (sins) into the basket, Jesus took all of our sins upon Himself when He went to the cross. • The basket also represents the gift of eternal life that Jesus offers us through His sacrifice. 4. Cover the Basket with a Red Blanket • Lay a red blanket over the basket to symbolize the blood of Jesus. • Explain that His blood doesn’t just cover sin—it washes it away completely. • Read 1 John 1:7: “The blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.” 5. The Resurrection & Our Freedom • Remind everyone that Jesus didn’t stay in the grave—on the third day, He rose again! • Just as He overcame sin and death, we too are set free from the weight of sin when we put our faith in Him. • Remove the blanket and take the rocks away, symbolizing how Jesus removes our sins completely. • On Easter, replace rocks with Easter baskets filled with gifts that symbolize the gift of eternal life. • End in prayer, thanking God for His mercy and the gift of salvation. This simple yet powerful activity helps children visualize the burden of sin and the freedom found in Christ. It teaches that no sin is too heavy for Jesus to carry, and through His sacrifice, we are forgiven and made new. The basket serves as a reminder not only of His love and faithfulness but also of the greatest gift of all—eternal life through Him. #easterbasket #familyofgod #easteractivities #momof4kids #jesuslovesyou #jesusisking #easterbasket #christcentered #eastersunday #goodfriday #eastersunday
