Replying to @BobbyJean Upcycling a junkyard ice cream truck into a pig‘s house has always been one of my favorite projects we’ve done! Not only is this SUPER easy to keep clean, because it’s all aluminum so I can just pressure wash this whole thing and there are big back doors that open up for easy access, but the reason why this is one of my favorite animals houses is because of how much Charlotte🐷loves it! 🥹 Before she moved into her ice cream truck house she went through numerous other little houses, where she would always break and destroy anything in her path to escape every other house we made for her. She would bust through walls like the kool-Aid man, pick up fencing and gates and go right under it, rip posts out of the ground, and even when we cemented her building in, she actually managed to break the cement apart crumbling it into pieces to be able to escape, which is how she gained her extremely fitting nickname “The Tank” We started to feel like we were in the 3 little pigs story, trying to build a little piggy house out of straw, sticks, and even bricks, yet nothing worked because the “big bad wolf” could ALWAYS huff and puff and blow every single house right down 😉NOTHING was good enough to contain “The Tank” We joked about needing a solid steel building to be able to contain her, and when Kevin found this old ice cream truck in the junkyard, we laughed at the idea, but we figured nothing else was working, so we might as well give it a try 🤷🏻‍♀️ And when we pulled up with this ice cream truck, she ran right up the stairs jumped up on the solid metal dashboard, laid down nose pressed against the windshield enjoying the view and then fell right asleep! All while under a Tornado watch too🌪️😅Definition of “Rain or Shine”😹 On rainy nights like this, It’s either ABSOLUTE CHAOS because all the animals are running everywhere playing musical chairs with the houses just trying to get inside of whichever house is closest to them so they don’t get wet OR it is the EASIEST nighttime routines because the animals have already put themselves away completely for the night in their own houses before the bad weather even starts😹 Thanks to all of the weird and crazy weather that we’ve been having lately, we’ve been able to see which parts of our property hold water and need to be raised, like in front of Scruffaluffagus🐐house and Scarlett🐷and Wilma’s🐷house. We now know which areas we can continue to build on and which areas will need to be worked on first. Replying to @danielanimallover We built our chicken coop by upcycling an old carport that was left on our property when we moved in. We designed the gnome style doors with sticks and moss that we found lying around in our yard. I found the chandelier at a thrift store for $8, and nasty old nesting boxes on the marketplace for $50, which I cleaned up and painted bright colors of course! A mobile animal feed shed is going to be a GAME CHANGER!! 🤯🤩 We decided on this instead of a typical feed shed because even when we had a feed shed we had to constantly go back and forth loading feed from the shed into whatever side by side/golf cart we had to go drop the feed in the various barns/houses and if you have animals you know how heavy those feed bags and hay bales can be to lug around!💪😮‍💨 not to mention buckets and bowls tipping over spilling everywhere while your driving, and if the horses caught us driving to their barn! GAME OVER they would come chasing after us trying to rip the feed out of the back of the cart🤦🏻‍♀️ Having all of our feed organized on shelves, in an enclosed mobile feed truck has so many benefits! Plus! In the event we ever needed to evacuate the property for any reason all the food is already together and it’s one less thing we will have to worry about prepping (we are constantly thinking of ways to be better prepared before storms) Also! We could always use this as a regular enclosed “trailer” in case we need to pick up general supplies, we could always just take the feed out for the day and go pickup the items and not have to pay someone to haul something home for us! This retired FedEx truck popped up for sale and even though this was not in our budget right now especially with everything going on with Samson🐴we knew it was something the Sanctuary desperately needed We had a wonderful $2,500 donation from @Ziggy’s Refuge and Operation Angel, and while we would have tried to fundraise for the remaining amount we unfortunately didn’t have time as we didn’t want to miss out on this deal, so Kevin and I came out of pocket to scoop up this truck before it was gone Thank you so much Ziggy’s Refuge and Operation Angel for your amazing support and efforts to help us get our new feed storage truck!
