On April 1, 2025, a devastating gas pipeline explosion in Putra Heights, Selangor, caused a massive fire with flames reaching 30 meters high, visible from kilometers away. In the aftermath of this disaster, many victims sought refuge at Putra Heights Mosque, where World of Buzz visited to understand the ongoing efforts to support those affected. During the visit, we spoke with a doctor and a mental health professional who are actively involved in providing aid. According to the Pusat Sokongan Sosial (PSSS), approximately 50-70 victims have been receiving mental health support. Many of these individuals are visibly distressed, some seen crying as they process the trauma from the sudden and unexpected disaster. The mental health professional emphasized the importance of providing emotional support, as many are struggling to cope with the aftermath of the tragedy. Meanwhile, a plastic surgeon shared that all victims with serious burns have been safely placed in hospitals for specialized treatment. For those with less severe injuries, they have been temporarily accommodated at the relief center at Masjid Putra Heights. Doctors at the mosque are diligently working to provide care and treatment to these individuals as they continue to recover from the horrific event.
