Watching her be a grandmother to my little girl gives me a window into how she was with me. I remember breaking a fancy plate once as a child and looking up at her to see what her reaction would be and she said “oh no worries it’s just a plate, it was an accident and accidents happen to everyone” She immediately cleaned it up and hugged me like it was no big deal because it truly wasn’t to her. No shame, no guilt - just connection. I remember getting a D on a test in high school and being so upset because I studied really hard. When I showed her my grade she asked me if I tried as hard as I could and when I said yes through my tears she said “well then that’s all that matters to us” and gave me a big hug and never brought it up again. She doesn’t value things or performance over people and I’m so grateful that I feel the same way because of the way she raised me as a child. I love that she laughed along side Gigi in that moment with the egg. The egg might have surprised her but she immediately went in for connection and laughed with Gigi through the moment.
