Wrexham have announced that a total of 14 players will leave the club after achieving promotion to the Championship. Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have overseen back-to-back-to-back promotions from the National League right up to the second tier of the English Football League and now face a crucial summer ahead of what will be another brutal campaign. The leap from League One to the Championship is a sizeable one and Wrexham will feel they will have to bolster their squad accordingly if they are to compete at the top end for a shot at promotion to the Premier League. In order to do that, they will have to free up some room in their squad and have taken the decision to cut some senior and some youth players. In an announcement made on Friday afternoon, the club confirmed that veteran striker Steven Fletcher and experienced goalkeeper Mark Howard will depart. Homegrown talent Jordan Davies, a product of the youth system at Wrexham either side of a three-year stint at Premier League outfit Brighton, will also leave the club. #Wales #walesonline #wrexham #wrexhamafc #ryanreynolds #eflchampionship #welshfootball

Spain is the most popular holiday spot for Brits, with a staggering 18 million visiting in 2023 alone, according to the Office for National Statistics. Yet this trend may shift due to increased regulatory measures on tourist accommodations. The Spanish government has ordered Airbnb to withdraw 65,935 listings that failed to comply with local laws. The country's consumer rights ministry cited discrepancies in records and a lack of proper licences as grounds for the removals. Consumer Rights Minister Pablo Bustinduy expressed his determination to tackle the widespread "lack of control" and "illegality" within the holiday letting sector. #spaintourism #airbnb #uknews #Wales #walesonline
A terminally ill former Welsh Rugby Union commercial director has had his request for a potentially life-extending drug turned down in the midst of his latest fundraising efforts. Craig Maxwell, who was diagnosed with incurable and inoperable lung cancer back in September 2022, has been undergoing chemotherapy alongside using amivantamab - a drug not yet approved in the UK, but one that Maxwell says could give him an extra "invaluable" six months with his family. Having previously been turned down for funding, Maxwell had to pay for the first quarter of his treatment himself - recently telling WalesOnline it cost him nearly £22,000. The treatment is approved in the US and some parts of Europe but is not yet freely available in the UK - with it currently going through the NHS approval process. Prior to applying to a Individual Patient Funding Request panel, Maxwell said that the costs of continuing on the drug would be around £100,000. #Wales #cardiff #walesonline #uknews #southwales
The British and Irish Lions made it back-to-back wins out in Australia after they thumped the Queensland Reds in Brisbane. Following a concerning defeat against Argentina in the warm-up in Dublin, Andy Farrell's side now appear to be up and running, backing up their triumph over the Western Force at the weekend with another positive display and a 52-12 win. As ever, though, with Farrell trying to piece together his Test XV in his mind, a number of players put their hands up. After Tomos Williams' tour-ending injury in the win over the Force on Saturday, Jac Morgan is the only man left flying the Welsh flag Down Under, however he stood up to the occasion on Wednesday with a well-taken try and a fantastic performance all round the park. #Wales #welshrugby #britishandirishlions #lionsrugby #rugbyunion

A popular Canadian fitness influencer travelled to a town in Wales that was called ‘UK’s fattest town’ and delivered a surprise verdict. Ebbw Vale in south Wales earned the unwanted title because of the number of people who have health problems like obesity and the town's high number of takeaways where 73% of restaurants are fast food outlets. YouTuber Will Tennyson, who is from Toronto, travelled all the way to the former steel town in the south Wales Valleys to investigate why people were struggling with their health. And what he found behind the ominous statistics disturbed him. Checking into his hotel, he said the receptionist remarked: “We are known as the fattest town in Britain. There’s not an awful lot to be honest with you. There isn’t a great deal around here other than kebab shops and vape shops.” And after reaching his room, he was greeted by fast food menus, and he said the number of options was “absolutely insane”. However, after a night’s rest, he explored the town, and said the smell of food struck him right away. He added: “They were not kidding about the kebab houses, they are actually everywhere. We probably passed 15 on the way here.” He had breakfast in Frenchie’s cafe and ordered the ‘Big Daddy’ that consisted of four sausages, two black puddings, beans, bacon, three hashbrowns, four eggs, tomatoes and six slices of breaad. #ebbwvale #southwales #Wales #walesonline #willtennyson

Henry Pollock has broken his silence on the violence that kicked off after the Champions Cup final in Cardiff. Bordeaux faced Northampton Saints in European rugby's showpiece event in the Welsh capital last weekend, with the French side winning 28-20 and securing their first-ever European trophy. However, shortly after the full-time whistle, attention was drawn to the immediate aftermath, with Pollock getting stuck into it with Bordeaux prop Jefferson Poirot. The Frenchman was subsequently cited for grabbing Pollock's throat and will now miss his side's final two games of the Top 14 regular season. #Wales #walesonline #cardiff #henrypollock #englandrugby

Police in Wales are looking for a number of people who are wanted in relation to a series of alleged crimes. Officers are asking for members of the public to come forward if they have any information about the whereabouts of the people listed below. This is not a comprehensive list of every wanted person in Wales. South Wales Police shares its active appeals on its force Facebook page but not all are featured as officers make every effort to trace suspects prior to them being published as wanted. North Wales Police does not remove all its appeals once they are no longer active, meaning some older ones still appear online. The force was not able to confirm whether these were still active and the people were still wanted. To maintain the greatest degree of accuracy we have chosen to only include appeals shared since April 11, 2025, for both forces. We have asked both forces to provide us with full lists but they have declined to do so. Gwent Police and Dyfed-Powys Police appeals featured here are up to date. #Wales #walesonline #uknews

Gary Lineker has confirmed he will leave the BBC following Sunday's Match of the Day as his long career at the corporation comes to an abrupt end. The 64-year-old presenter announced last year that he would step down as presenter of the iconic Premier League highlights show at the end of the season. However, while it was initially planned for him to return to front the broadcaster's World Cup coverage next year, as well as their live FA Cup broadcasts for the 2025/26 campaign, he will now depart for good this weekend. Lineker's exit comes after he shared a post about Zionism on his Instagram account that included an illustration of a rat - which is historically used as an anti-semitic insult. While he deleted the post and issued a public apology, the former England striker has confirmed his departure after it was reported over the weekend that his position had become untenable in the eyes of his bosses at the BBC. While there were widespread calls for Lineker to be axed over the post, it has also been reported that a perceived dig he made at his BBC boss in an interview with the Telegraph may have actually been the final straw. In the interview, which was carried out before the storm and published days after the post had been shared, Lineker discussed the corporation's director of sport, Alex Kay-Jelski and appeared to criticise him for having "no television experience". "He wants to change Match of the Day a bit,” he said. “Ultimately, I don’t think they will, because I don’t see how you move a highlights show away from being about highlights. "I think he wants more journalists – he has come from that background. He has got no television experience.” Reports of Lineker's imminent departure emerged on Sunday evening, with the presenter confirming the news on Monday. However, while his exit comes sooner than expected, he recently admitted that his focus was already starting to shift away from TV towards his other job in podcasting, as he explained how he wasn't planning on returning to football anyway after next year's World Cup in USA, Canada and Mexico. Discussing his plans, Lineker told pundits Alan Shearer and Micah Richards on the Rest is Football podcast that: "I think, certainly, post World Cup final next year, I don't think you'll see me do much television. "I might appear on a guest show or something like that. But I don't think, football wise, I am going to do that anymore. I just want to go and watch football and enjoy it." #uknews #garylineker #matchoftheday #bbcsport #Wales #footballtiktok
